About the Role

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Maintenance Manager is responsible for the leadership of the Maintenance Team. Using Lean principles optimize the maintenance and production efficiency of all production lines, utility equipment, infrastructure, parts inventory, and individual line performance and the utilization of maintenance resources.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring the safety of their team, and the plant. Partners with the health and safety team to address corrective and preventive actions and suggestions.

  • Using Lean principles – conduct root cause problem solving to achieve lasting solutions to downtime and efficiency opportunities.

  • Responsible for site CAPEX Projects.

  • Support and commission various plant maintenance programs and provide technical solutions for line problems

  • Ensure optimal efficiency in production, line performance, and the utilization of maintenance resources

  • Provide proper preventative maintenance to all equipment, respond to breakdowns

  • Read blueprints, diagrams, and schematic drawings to determine work procedures

  • Install, align, dismantle, and move stationary machinery and mechanical equipment

  • Inspect and examine machinery and equipment to detect and investigate irregularities and malfunctions

  • Install, troubleshoot, and maintain pneumatic systems, and programmable logic controls (PLCs)

  • Provide guidance and supervision to the tradesperson to ensure proper priorities as well as safe working practices

  • Organize and assign the work scheduled while properly utilizing the qualified personal to maximize output, quality, and productivity of the maintenance department

  • Identify and expedite the inventory of spare parts that must be readily available to avoid excessive downtime costs and lost production

  • Contact and communicate with suppliers and contractors regarding new products and technologies as well as discussions with counterparts within the company

  • Maintain a fair and equal standard of discipline of company rules and safety policies

  • Constantly strive to improve methods, machinery, equipment, and repair techniques, to reduce cost, increase productivity and improve working conditions for all employees and assist engineering on some of the above

  • Oversee and instruct proper use of tools, equipment, and methods, both from a safety and efficiency standpoint.

  • Prepare and maintain oral and written reports using Excel or other software, charts, budget, etc.

  • Review performance and records of employees and keep attendance and time records daily

  • Expedite outside services for major planned work throughout the plant

  • Organize major shut-down and repair i.e.: Summer shutdown

  • Follow all plant policies/rules and comply with all safety requirements

  • Maintain compliance with company policies and good housekeeping practices

  • Hire and terminate maintenance employees, and oversee training needs of staff

  • Responsible for building and property maintenance

  • Other duties as assigned


  • Strong computer skills in applications including:

  • Microsoft Office, Excel,

  • CMMS or equivalent

  • Millwright or Electrician certification considered an asset

  • 5+ years management experience in a manufacturing environment

  • 5+ years in a supervisory capacity

  • Experience with continuous improvement initiatives and cost savings
