About the Role
Reporting to the Director of Product Development, the New Product Designer is responsible for designing unique meaningful product solutions for our consumers. The successful candidate will be part of a creative team tasked with bringing the most innovative maker techniques to the mass market, help develop new fibers, accessories, and inspirations for the North American market.
Duties & Responsibilities
Discover and define consumer needs and wants through Consumer Research and collaboration with internal teams at Insights Meeting
Communicate ideas to relevant team members by facilitating brainstorming, trend discovery and experimentation
Develop market-ready, easy-to-use, and visually appealing crafting solutions to enable and inspire our maker community
Build mockups, test concepts in collaboration with Design and Marketing teams
Based on briefs from internal teams, define product specifications, create digital or print drawings and design fully functional products and costs analysis
Prototype and test functionality, create design concepts and drawings and present at PowerUp Meeting to gain approval for further development
Collaborate with external partners on improvements to design existing products working toward corporate goals
Establish and qualify external team of key contributors to the Product Development design
Collaborate with all internal teams – Finance, Sourcing, Marketing - throughout all phases in the Product Development process
Responsible for the entire product ideation, creation, and execution through to Manufacturing
Qualifications
Work experience as a Product Designer or similar role for 2-3 years preference given to CPG and Fashion related fields
2-3 years’ experience in industrial design or related field
Undergraduate degree in Industrial Design, Fashion design, or relevant field
Experience working with external development houses and inventor groups
Hands-on experience with computer-aided design (CADD) tools and design programs (Illustrator and Sketch)
Proficient in rapid and traditional prototyping techniques to prove concepts
Excellent eye for aesthetic design and customer appeal, with a keen attention to detail, meticulous & diligent
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Able to effectively manage their time and their network of developers
Knowledge of the industry and market trends is beneficial
Awareness of knit, crochet, crafts featuring yarn is favorable
